Save7Favorite0 If you think you don’t have time for a butt-kicking workout this holiday season, think again. Tabata, a form of high-intensity interval training, can burn up to 13 1/2 calories per minute, meaning just a short workout will leave you sweaty, full of energy, and ready to take on your packed day. Try this under-20-minute Tabata workout from Sports Club/LA trainer Judy Truong; she guarantees it’ll leave you feeling “like you’ve been at the gym all day.” After a few minutes of warmup, start with Tabata One, and do each exercise for 20 seconds, resting for 10 seconds before you move on to the next move. Rest up to 30 seconds between each eight-move Tabata series, but make sure you keep rest breaks short to keep your heart rate up.

Save2Favorite1 This Tabata workout is a fitness cram session! In 30 minutes you work your entire body and then some. To make the workout even more efficient, we borrow a trick from Chicago-based trainer Lauren Fairbanks and turn the rest period into isometric exercises, which she lovingly calls “frest” for fake rest. Holding these positions works the muscles in a complementary way after the intensity of interval work.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could get fit and healthy in just four minutes a day?You may be thinking that this sounds a little too good to be true. But, contrary to conventional wisdom, the best way to increase fitness and even burn fat is not through performing endless hours of drawn-out cardio exercise. In fact, if you really want to get a better body, then very short intense workouts are actually the way to go, and as little as four minutes a day could well be enough to give you the results you’re after. This could be great news for the millions of us out there who lead busy lives and find it difficult to fit structured exercise into our daily schedule. What Exactly Is Metabolic Training?Metabolic training refers to working at high intensity with structured periods of exercise and shorter periods of rest in an alternating circuit. These types of workouts break convention in that they amalgamate both weight training and cardio in one integrated exercise session. The result is a workout that keeps you seriously fit and boosts metabolism, enabling your body to continue burning fat for up to 48 hours after the workout has actually finished. Fitness Results From Just Minutes, Not HoursWhilst there are various different forms of metabolic training, one of the most popular, named after the Japanese doctor who developed the concept, is called Tabata Training

Home > The X Factor > X Factor 2013: Sam Bailey’s weight loss is thanks to Tabata training & healthy eating!November 3rd, 2013 by Lynn Connolly.During last night’s X Factor, viewers heard the fabulous Sam Bailey revealing that she’s lost over a stone in weight since she moved into the finalists’ house, and it certainly showed as she performed wearing a body-hugging jumpsuit…Judges Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger both made reference to Sam’s slimmed-down look, which she’s apparently achieved using a method of training called Tabata and by eating a healthy diet.It seems that Sam became determined to shed the weight after worrying that her ‘mumsy’ image could see her do less well in the contest – she told us a few weeks ago that she didn’t even expect to get through to Boot Camp because of her appearance – than the younger and slimmer hopefuls. Her trainer Tom Mangan, who works in the gym at the Hilton Hotel in Leicester, has been telling the Sunday Mirror about the workout he planned for Sam.He said, “Sam first came down at the time when she was at the judge’s houses…“Then when she moved in to the X-Factor house, I designed a programme for her which she could do without any equipment.“She has found a little space in the house and does body weight exercises every night which are short and sharp.“She does a work-out called Tabata training which is a high intensity 4- minute session and is the quickest way to lose fat.“You can do three to four rounds to form a twenty minute work-out. But she is struggling to fit it in as she’s so busy.”He added, “It’s a whole life change for Sam…“The primary aim is to lose weight and secondary to that is to tone up.“Since the first audition she has already lost a stone and a half. She is doing great and half-way through her target.“If you want to be a popstar then you have to look the part as well and for the best chance in the show you have to have it all.“She wants to get back to the shape she used to be when she was younger and first met her husband.“There are no real fitness goals – she just wants to look better and she herself looking good on stage. She knows that she needs to lose weight to make it as a popstar.“She has had a bit of stick about her weight and it’s something she’s quite conscious about.”The paper adds, “Sam has been alternating this with celebrity trainer Jon Trevor’s ‘red carpet ready’ work-out and a diet plan.”Jon said, “Sam has a specific eating plan and is eating non starchy carbohydrates – such as green and leafy vegetables and salads – and low saturated fat like fish, lean meats and egg white omelettes.“She does a work-out before breakfast and another work-out in the afternoon before evening meals”On Thursday, Sam took to Twitter to say, “Want to say a massive thankyou to @tmangan17 from livingwell Leicester and @JonTrevor for all their support and advice in my weightloss xxx”Well it’s clearly working for her – she looks fantastic doesn’t she?!Here’s a reminder of her performance last night, which, given it was of hit track Enough Is Enough, may well have been aimed at the pies in her life…Related: Sam Bailey, X Factor 2013
