Grokfeast in Ohio

div class=”breakout”On September 11th I asked Mark#8217;s Daily apple readers to host a Grokfeast (a picnic/party celebrating the Primal lifestyle) and to send me the results. The following is one of 14 amazing submissions, the best of which will a title=”2012 Grokfeast Challenge” href=”http://www.marksdailyapple.com/have-a-picnic-win-a-cow-the-2012-grokfeast-challenge/”win an entire cow/a courtesy of a title=”US Wellness” href=”http://www.grasslandbeef.com/StoreFront.bok” target=”_blank”US Wellness/a./div
pWe are a young family of hunter-gatherers living in south-eastern Ohio. In preparation for our Grokfeast, we undertook our usual Saturday morning outing to the farmer’s markets, natural food store, and the local butcher. On our way to the feast, we stopped by the orchard that has been in my mom’s family for almost a century to get our “daily apples”./p

pLet’s just admit it. The kids are good foragers. They hunt and gather things that the rest of us don’t see. Like seasoned professionals, they rummage their surroundings for anything interesting. Unfortunately, these items are often dangerous and never elusive. Also unfortunate is the fact that they often end up in their mouths. (Why is it difficult to get my kids to eat kale, but not dirt?)/p

pOur Grokfeast celebration was a delightful celebration of all of the finer things in life! The preparation was simple. We wanted the preparation to be pretty simple because we also wanted to spend time together playing in the sunshine with our new-found friend a title=”Who is Grok?” href=”http://www.marksdailyapple.com/about-2/who-is-grok/”Grok/a. We spent a little over an hour getting our roast beast dish ready to cook in the morning (see recipe above) and we also cut up vegetables for a delicious green salad and a fruit dish. We then spent much of our day outside with Grok in […]

pWe started out by picking up some produce from the local markets. Finding some delicious local and grass fed meat, fresh organic vegetables and local free range eggs. Then we headed to the shops to pick up the rest of the ingredients. Including my favourites, 85% Black amp; Green#8217;s organic chocolate, macadamias, bacon and butter. After packing up the car we set off on a 3 hour drive leaving Perth and heading down the west coast to Yallingup where we stayed for a Primal weekend of bliss./p

pI first encountered grok as a verb so I was really surprised to meet a title=”Who is Grok?” href=”http://www.marksdailyapple.com/about-2/who-is-grok/”Grok/a on my first trip to MDA! In case you don’t know, grokking is a concept created by Robert Heinlein in emStranger In a Strange Land/em that means to understand so thoroughly that it becomes part of you and you become part of it. The more I thought about it, the more I realized I grok Grok! I share the same reality with all of the Primal folks that share my reality. That sense of belonging to […]

pOur Grokfeast preparations started early on Saturday with a trip to the Sioux Falls Farmer#8217;s Market to get all of the vegetables fresh from local farmers. The 4 chickens also joined the party early as we began brining them at the Zahasky house on Saturday./p
pOn Sunday we congregated at the Esser’s at 2pm so we could begin preparing and cooking together as a community. Our Grokfeast lasted 7 hours! To kick it off we prepared the food between the indoor kitchen and the outdoor kitchen (a dug-in-the-ground fire pit we created in the back yard […]

Interval training has proven to be one of the most effective ways to kick fat-burning into high gear, boost metabolism, and improve overall fitness. Yeah, sign us up for that. The only kicker? Interval training gets those great results by pushing the body with high intensity exercises, broken up with lower-intensity efforts in between. Nailing the timing and techniques can take plenty of practice, but that’s where Greatist comes in

And you responded with 23 top-notch clips. Boiling the submissions down to the top videos for this poll was no easy task. My crew and I discussed at length what made up a good fitness video. Was it fun and entertaining? Was the workout something we can see ourselves doing? Did it inspire and keep us watching? How well did it represent Primal Blueprint Fitness? On and on. In the end we held a blind vote and ended up with the following four picks. To everyone that didn’t make the cut, many, many thanks for taking the time to put together an amazing contribution to this year’s 21-Day Challenge. Honorable mentions go out to each and every one […]
