But this isn’t the only preparation method that brings out the best in sweet potatoes. Boiled and cooled and then tossed with homemade mayo, they make a mean potato salad with the perfect balance of sweet, tangy and, if you like, spicy flavor./p
pA light coating of homemade mayo and a small bit of chopped pickle, jalapeno and/or chives is all you need to make this potato salad come together. If you throw too many ingredients into the bowl, you risk overwhelming your taste buds. Remember, sweet potatoes have a lot more flavor than regular old bland, starchy tubers do. “Why does breakfast make me hungry?” When someone asked me that question for the umpteenth time since my methods became popular, I finally decided to indulge in a deeper exploration of what the plausible mechanism might be. I thought I’d share my thoughts on that with you today.br /

Not this kind of Reserve…although if you're looking for a bday present…

Yesterday I wrote a blog post outlining why it’s possible to gain muscle while following Eat Stop Eat style intermittent fasting.
In that email, I made mention of the fact that your ability to gain muscle while losing fat has more to do with your total ‘reserve’ then it does the exact amount of calories you are eating.
It also has a lot do with inhibition theory and the concept that your body’s natural state is growth, and it is regulated by ‘brakes’. If we didn’t have brakes we would have almost unlimited growth potential (think tumors)…but more on that later.
(You can check out the post here if you missed it)
The concept of a ‘reserve’ is based on the theory of fat availability… which coincidentally is the basis for the Reverse Taper Diet.
And this brings me to a very important point: […]

I don’t have a label for the type of diet I like to follow. I eat Paleo meals occasionally, use Intermittent Fasting about once per week, eat Gluten Free at times, etc. If I had to come up for a term for it, I’d call it “Hybrid Dieting”. It is a loose way of eating, where I take principles from several solid diets…when it makes sense. I’ll outline some solid principles in this post for those who want to lose weight without necessarily following a rigid diet year-round.

The” Calories In/Calories Out” Strategy

I shouldn’t even call this a strategy. The idea of burning more calories than you take in, should be the #1 goal when it comes to losing body fat. Sounds obvious, right? You would think so…but I can almost guarantee you that there will be several people commenting who will dispute this strategy. There are several groups who believe […]

John Barban and I are just about finished writing “The Inhibition Theory of Muscle Growth” a theory that should turn the entire muscle building industry on it’s head.

If you got one foot on the gas and one foot on the break you're not going to get too far

The premise of our theory is incredibly simple — The ‘natural’ state for your body is growth, with checks and balances acting as breaks to prevent this growth.
As an analogy, it’s like having a car with the accelerator permanently stuck to the floor, and you regulate the speed of the car with by pushing down or letting up on the break. Only in your body’s case there are dozens if not hundreds of breaks.
The entire theory would take several emails to fully explain, so for this post we’ll just stick with the idea that your body’s natural state is one of growth. This […]
