The beauty of including cheese balls in your appetizer spread is their simplicity and ease of preparation. In fact, cheese balls don’t require a recipe so much as they do some good ingredient inspiration, while following a four-step assembly process. Even so, there are a few missteps that have the potential to stand in the way of making a cheese ball that’s a total win.

When you think of any Chinatown in any city in the country, the image that springs to mind is almost always of glistening, lacquered ducks hanging in the storefronts. (Whether those are Peking ducks or not is up for debate, but I digress.) Peking duck has long been one of the iconic Chinese dishes, and it’s easy to see why — the tableside preparation, the communal eating, the multiple courses, the pure deliciousness of it.

Like so many of you, I intend to work even more veggies into my meal plan this year. There will be more greens at breakfast and salads aplenty, but I’m also focused on another approach: incorporating vegetables into dessert. You see, veggies are super adaptable and many are full of natural sweetness that makes them a prime candidate to give sweet treats a wholesome boost.

This time of year, I go into hibernation. Forget after-work drinks and Saturday night apartment parties. I’m just not going. It’s not like I want to be antisocial entirely, but when the wind chill means temps are topping out in the single digits, it’s going to take a lot to get me out of the house. Actually, the only thing I’d maybe be willing to leave for (aside from work!) is a super-cozy dinner party.

Any of these five could be convincing enough, and they’re full of good ideas for you you to try at home.

Then there’s the brilliant method of pan-frying them, making them nice and crispy. Everyone can agree on crispy.

Something happened last night that only happens once every three years: IKEA unveiled its new PS collection. According to the math, that means the last collection was in 2014.

The new IKEA PS 2017 hits stores on Feb 1 and, while there’s plenty to get excited about (more than 50 new products — all designed to make your lives easier), we’ve picked our three favorites here.

I consider my apartment to be something of a unicorn: I’m a New Yorker living in a rental with a fully functional fireplace. Yay! Only, I never use it. Why not? Firewood is pretty expensive in Manhattan, and when we needed a place to put our cable box and gaming systems, I begrudgingly agreed to use the cutout for our makeshift media center. Plus, it would be impossible to tell you when the chimney was last swept or the flue checked, so I’d be too nervous to use it anyway.

Of course, it would be nice to have a roaring fire this time of year, so I feel your pain, fireplace-free folks. Luckily, there are some things you can do to get your fire fix this winter.
