Summer is around the corner and Trader Joe’s is launching a line of sparkling wines that will likely be the “it” drink of the season. Called Simpler Wines, the Italian sparkling wines (vino frizzante in Italian) come packaged in pink and blue cans. And like most things that come from Trader Joe’s, this wine is cheap. Like, really, really cheap. Four cans will cost you just $3.99. It’s basically the new Two-Buck Chuck.

Whatever the main course that’s on the menu tonight, a side of potatoes is almost always a good idea. My favorite way to enjoy them is simply roasted, but that can take upwards of an hour and I usually don’t have that time to spare on busy weeknights. Luckily, there are plenty of potato recipes that are just as tasty and take a fraction of the time to cook up. Here are seven we love.

If the idea of chopping another onion or mincing another clove of garlic makes you not want to cook tonight, there might be a smart kitchen tool to help you out. This mini food chopper does all the work for you and doesn’t take up a ton of space in a tiny kitchen (like a food processor). Right now Amazon is having a sale on a highly rated food chopper. You can get the one shown above for just $12, whereas it normally goes for $36. That means it’s close to 70 percent off right now.

A trifle just may be the ultimate dessert for a crowd. It can (and actually needs to) be made ahead of time, its layers are always adaptable, and it’s always one heck of a showstopper. The key to making it look as glorious as possible is to serve it in the proper vessel. There are a whole lot to choose from, sure, but here are the three we think are best.

We’re heading into prime brunch season, which means that brunch casseroles are about to enjoy their heyday. So I decided to revisit one of our most popular recipes ever, published several years ago for a breakfast bake with bread, pancetta, Gruyere, and eggs. I’m afraid I’ll sound horribly hyperbolic if I talk about this recipe too long: It’s rich, eggy, and unbelievably, incredibly delicious.

This is one to memorize, folks, and to pull out for in-laws and overnight guests. It may just be the very best brunch casserole I’ve ever made.

There was a time when receiving a cookbook for Mother’s Day may have been as exciting as receiving a vacuum — useful, sure, but a bit lacking in glamour. But with today’s gorgeous options, receiving a cookbook is an invitation to dive into something creative and inspired. And if your mom is already an enthusiastic cook, then a beautiful new volume will only encourage and enliven her time in the kitchen.

Of course, there is no one way to be a mother and there are many stages of motherhood, from the all-consuming days of infancy to being an empty nester. Hopefully, one of these 15 titles will match up well with the mother in your life, bringing her and everyone she cooks for the joyful contentment of a belly well fed.
