This morning was one of those ‘blank mornings’.
You know that feeling when you stare at the computer screen with so much on your mind that you don’t know where to start?
That’s where I was.
I wanted introduce my new project ‘phi-life.com’ but, the words just weren’t reaching my finger tips.
So I decided to take a break and answer a couple emails.
One thing led to another, and now I have a short story to share that’s a great introduction to phi-life.
Please see the emails below:

Question for you.
In one of your blog posts you talked about the myth of starvation mode. Yesterday I just read a different blog claiming starvation mode is a serious threat to weight loss. Is this guy and his starvation modes stories another scam?
Am I correct in saying that the starvation mode only happens when you don’t eat for prolonged periods of time but not if you [...]

I’m sure you’ve seen it. It’s all over the news. People are finally beginning to come around to that inconvenient truth about our feet, that dirty little secret that shoe companies would prefer to keep under wraps: barefoot is better.
There has been media coverage of the barefoot trend in the past, mostly intermittent, in running magazines and always taking a patronizing tone. It follows the same formula: more idle speculation on a bizarre fad that a select few crazies are promoting, with plenty of “balance” from stuffy foot specialists expressing doubt that the inherently fragile, gentle human foot could ever withstand the rigors of walking unshod without “serious injury,” than any serious consideration of the merits. But now we’ve got a nice, juicy study to hang our hats (or our shoes) on, and media outlets are falling over themselves to get the scoop.
Witness the Boston Globe’s take on the whole [...]

Like previous First Ladies, Michelle Obama has found her First Lady Issue — and luckily for America, it’s Childhood Obesity.
America has to do something about childhood obesity…NOW.
Our collective lifestyle is essentially a perfect storm that ensures that our children are going to keep getting fatter and sicker year after year.
But, what are we supposed to do.
Most families require two incomes…ergo home cooked meals are hard to come by.
America’s food producers make a greater profit on processed “food in a box” than they do on fruit, vegetables, meat, eggs, etc… so we can’t expect them to lead the healthy eating parade.
Between our anti-pedestrian neighborhoods and our fear of strangers, our kids don’t play outside anymore. I remember as a kid being outside for hours playing sports and doing kid stuff. I bet you do too. When was the last time your kids spent an entire Saturday outside in the fresh [...]

Tomorrow, I will be sharing with the Health Habits Facebook Group one of the most effective fat-burning, muscle building, health improving diets I have ever designed.
But, before I do that, I thought I would show everybody the 3 pillars that I used to create the Health Habits Diet.
It’s Not Only What You Eat
It’s When You Eat It
And How Much Of It That You Eat
Simple, right?
Let’s take a closer look.
What You Eat
There are a lot of diets that restrict the types of food you can and can’t eat:
Low-Fat Diets
Low-Carb Diets
Vegetarian/Vegan Diets
High Fiber Diets
Liquid Diets
Organic Food Diets
Whole Grain Diets
and the list goes on and on and on…
The fact is, certain foods improve your health and certain foods don’t.
Certain foods are high in nutrients and low in calories
Other foods are high in calories and low in nutrients
Certain foods make you hungry
Certain foods cause inflammation (that’s bad)
Certain foods make you fat
Based upon the most [...]

As we all know, our Primal lifestyles don’t exist in a vacuum or (more than likely) even a very compatible environment. That goes double for our kids. However committed and exacting we might choose to be at home when it comes to their diets, the minute they walk out the door they encounter a whole world of competing interests and influences: grandparents and other family members, friends’ houses, school lunches, social outings, even sports team trips (ah, the big yellow buses pulling up to McDonalds…). While some of us might keep our Primal commitments more personal, all of us want to see our kids eat and be healthy. That’s easier said than done unfortunately. Sometimes the challenges hit closer to home, as in this reader’s email.
Mark,
I have what I feel is an interesting question that I don’t see addressed anywhere on the site. I’m pretty sold on the notion [...]

The basis of Tabata Training is 4 minutes of intense interval training/circuit training. What you are doing is taking an exercise we'll use sprints as an example here.
Sprint as hard as you can for 20 seconds
Walk for 10 seconds
Repeat 7 more times for a total of 8 sets.
So what you have is a total of 4 minutes workout time.
Tabata Training can be done with a number of different exercises the idea is to use an exercise that gets the whole body involved or at least the major muscle groups.Tabata Training can be done with Barbells, Dumbells, Kettlebells or just Bodyweight exercises. I'll give you some other exercises and routines to try in a minute but first let me give you some background and how Tabatas work.
Tabata Training was developed by Izumi Tabata (imagine that) at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo, Japan. They did a study on [...]
