When I heard the news Monday of celebrated chef Joël Robuchon’s passing, my mind flashed back seven years to a singular night in Paris — a turning point in my love for food.

On the last night of an incredible trip to Morocco and France, my husband and I had a decision to make: We had come in under budget on the trip, and I felt the distinct urge to use it on something important. Of course the sensible thing would’ve been to take that cash back home. But who wants to be sensible on their last night in Paris?

Think back to the days of your youth in the cafeteria. Do you envision chicken nuggets, doughy pizza, and questionable hot dogs that often dominated the school lunch line? Or maybe you picture sugary treats like chocolate milk, Cosmic Brownies, and Twinkies that accompanied your main dish? For older millennials in particular, this might be a familiar scenario, but things are changing a little bit around the country.

I am not and never will be an “I’ll just have a salad” kind of person. Salad on the side, yeah. Salad to start, of course. But to think that just a salad would be enough to satisfy me on any level — emotional, spiritual, physical — is totally delusional. Believe me, I’ve tried. It always ends up with a feeling of deep emptiness and probably a bag of salt-and-vinegar chips.

It’s no secret how much we love a good multi-cooker around here. Short of ordering takeout, these machines are the best bets for having a warm, delicious meal ready when you get home from work.

We’ve tested and written about plenty of multi-cookers, including options from Cuisinart, Crock-Pot, and, of course, the cult-favorite Instant Pot. Today, however, we found one on Amazon that we haven’t seen before.

One of the reasons to pack your own lunch for work (besides it saving you some money, of course) is that it’s the easiest way to ensure you’re eating something wholesome in the middle of the day. Perhaps you’ve been packing the same old salad, though, and you’re finding yourself less than thrilled with your option when noon rolls around?

Luckily we have some inspiration. Here are 25 (plus!) healthy lunches you’ll not only feel good about packing, but also will be excited to dig into.

Believe it or not, it’s actually possible to clean too much. Whether it means you’re cleaning an item too often or cleaning it more than necessary, over-cleaning is a surefire way to waste time and energy — and sometimes ruin your stuff.

I honestly can’t remember the last time my fridge was yogurt-less. Greek yogurt is great for breakfast parfaits and smoothies, and a spoonful of this essential is also the perfect way to add creaminess (without the actual cream!) to salad dressings.

Here are five of our favorite salad dressings that are made more magical with Greek yogurt.

Between books, sports gear, art projects, and more, kids’ backpacks get pretty loaded up. Add lunch to that, and your child’s backpack is not only full, but also heavy — and that can be a real problem if they’re walking a ways to school or just toting it onto the bus and into the front door. One way to lighten the load is to opt for a different lunch box. While lunch boxes are not particularly heavy (although some really are!), even the incremental weight of one with a ton of bells and whistles can load down your kids.

The key to a lightweight lunch box that still insulates your food and offers water resistance? Neoprene! This material, most famous for being used to keep surfers and divers warm in chilly ocean water, will maintain food’s temperatures for hours. Plus, it’s a flexible material, so it’s easy to cram into a full backpack.

Here are five great neoprene lunch box options.

Whether you’re making basic pasta or mixing unconventional ingredients, learning how to cook is a process that requires lots of practice. Even if you know your way around the kitchen and have a solid repertoire of go-to recipes, there’s no harm in taking a cooking class. Not only does it open you up to new cuisines and recipes, but it also gives you the opportunity to pick up skills you wouldn’t learn otherwise.

Which brings us to Sur la Table. The cookware and gadget haven has a pretty stellar cooking curriculum. And now, for a limited time, you can take 30 percent off select in-store classes.
