I have decided to start a video section of my blog. Most of these will be videos put up by others online along with my commentary. I’m going to keep these in a separate section of the site, so it doesn’t mix in with my long-form blog posts. My hope is to build up a super useful library of videos that you can come back to, instead of having to search through Youtube.

Avoid the Dark Side of Youtube!
Looking for a workout video on Youtube can lead you down a dark path. For instance, I was looking for a training montage and found Van Damme grooving to Zou Bisou Bisou (Mad Men). No doubt it is awesome, but just burned 30 minutes watching clips from 80′s martial arts movies.

Found This Gem as Well

If you were a teen in the 80′s, this song will give you chills. Yep…as corny as […]

Why does lifting weights make us stronger? Why does running a mile on a regular basis improve our aerobic conditioning and allow us to improve our times? Why does skipping a meal every now and then increase insulin sensitivity, lower body fat, improve lipid numbers, and generally make us healthier? Why are plant polyphenols so consistently associated with health benefits?/p
pThe answer is a title=”Wikipedia: Hormesis” href=”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hormesis”hormesis/a. You see, back when Nietzsche said, #8220;That which does not kill us makes us stronger,#8221; he may not have been talking about the positive and beneficial physiological effects of exposing yourself to various stressors and toxins, but he could have been. All those things #8211; the exercise, the fasting, the plant phytochemicals, plus more #8211; stress our systems and force us to adapt to the imposed stress. Organisms, after all, like […]

This week, I thought I#8217;d do a similar post on how we tend to sabotage our pursuit of fitness. What do I mean by inadvertently sabotaging your fitness routine? For a PBer, they do this a little different than the average person. You#8217;re probably not wasting your time with endless amounts of bicep curls. You#8217;ve probably seen the light and avoid excessive amounts of a title=” Dear Mark: Chronic Cardio” href=”http://www.marksdailyapple.com/chronic-cardio/”Chronic Cardio/a. You#8217;ve got the basics down pat, you#8217;ve got calluses from holding barbells, and you know the difference between Olympic lifting and […]

Should I?#8221;/p
pFrom time to time, I like to have some fun and expand the scope of this blog beyond the regular topics. Health and wellness, after all, come down to far more than just diet and exercise (and a title=”The Definitive Guide to Sleep” href=”http://www.marksdailyapple.com/the-definitive-guide-to-sleep/”sleep/a and a title=”Vitamin D: Sun Exposure, Supplementation and Doses” href=”http://www.marksdailyapple.com/vitamin-d-sun-exposure-supplementation-and-doses/”sun/a and a title=”The Definitive Guide to Stress, Cortisol, and the Adrenals: When ‘Fight or Flight’ Meets the Modern World” href=”http://www.marksdailyapple.com/cortisol/”stress/a, for that matter). Have full-fledged Internet subcultures sprung up around any other animal product? Does any food but bacon inspire obvious longing masquerading as righteous rancor and vitriol? And yet no matter how much has been written about bacon, questions inevitably and indefinitely remain. Case in point: today#8217;s round of questions. That#8217;s right, we have two bacon-related questions and one unrelated question about noise therapy and a title=”The Definitive Guide to Sleep” href=”http://www.marksdailyapple.com/the-definitive-guide-to-sleep/”sleep/a. I#8217;ve got to say #8211; this really warms my heart. Raw squash is mild and slightly sweet with a heavier texture that mixes well with light, crunchy cabbage and a blend of spicy, tangy flavors./p
pInstead of having to wait for it to slowly roast in an oven, this recipe lets you enjoy butternut squash in no time at all. The texture is different than cooked squash #8211; it’s similar to raw carrots #8211; and the flavor isn’t as sweet. If you don’t typically like squash, you may still love this slaw./p
pServe this flavorful slaw for dinner tonight and don’t forget about it when the holidays roll around. The clean, fresh flavor is a nice contrast when served with heavy main dishes like beef and pork roasts or a title=”Heritage Turkey and Mashed Parsnips” href=”http://www.marksdailyapple.com/heritage-turkey-and-mashed-parsnips/#axzz2Aw164HxJ”turkey/a./p
