It goes by many different names: “Intermittent Fasting”, “Alternate Day Calorie Restriction”, “The 5:2 Plan”, etc., but it all boils down to this: one, two, or three times a week, you have a fasting or very low calorie day (VLCD < 500 kcal).  The overall caloric intake isn’t necessarily reduced, the frequency of food consumption is altered. It is a relatively painless way to reap enormous health and weight loss benefits.Intermittent Fasting is how we are genetically designed to eat. Our Hunter-Gatherer ancestors did not sit down to 3 square meals plus 2 snacks, their caloric intake varied from day to day

Exercise training has received increasing recognition as a cornerstone in the prevention and treatment of T2D. Emerging research suggests that resistance training (RT) has the power to combat metabolic dysfunction in patients with T2D and seems to be an effective measure to improve overall metabolic health and reduce metabolic risk factors in diabetic patients. However, there is limited mechanistic insight into how these adaptations occur

No, that’s not a typo: “HIIT” is an acronym that stands for High Intensity Interval Training, and it seems to be one of the hottest trends in fitness. Indeed, HIIT made the top of the list in the American College of Sports Medicine’s annual survey of fitness trends. You may have heard of HIIT as the “newest,” “best,” “most amazingest,” “magic-est” way to lose weight or achieve some other goal. Is it? Well, yes and no.HIIT is basically just a new trendy acronym for a form of training people have been doing for a long, long time. Most of the time, however, the only people doing it were competitive athletes trying to run, bike, and/or swim faster in races

Diagnosed With MS – Now Stronger And Healthier Than Ever! 5 Comments Monday, November 4th, 2013 Testimonial written by Becky Chadwell:I can’t begin to say enough thanks to the paleo world out there. In November of 2012, after a heavy workout, my pinky and ring finger on each hand started tingling. I thought to myself, “Great, turn 32 and I’m falling apart from lifting 60 pounds.” I was really careful and tried to stretch but after about a week of this the numbness and tingling invaded both of my hands entirely.Being a nurse I thought through all sorts of terrible possibilities and settled on calling a chiropractor because I must have pulled or compressed something in my back.  It was about 2 weeks after all of this that I woke up one day and the tingling was running through both of my big toes

How it works This quickfire workout uses Tabata training, a method developed in Japan that trains your body’s aerobic and anaerobic systems at the same time. Doing the circuit under Tabata rules will burn fat and improve your VO2 max (the maximum volume of oxygen you can use during exercise). It will also induce excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), which gives your metabolism a boost after your finish exercising and encourages further fat loss. In Tabata training you perform each exercise by counting time rather than reps.

HIIT Me! Category: Blog Published Dated: October 24, 2013 Written by: Jessica What’s the top trend in the exercise world right now?  After surveying more than 3,800 fitness professionals, the American College of Sports Medicine has identified high-intensity interval training (HIIT) as the current top fitness trend.  What does that mean for you?  If you come to some of my classes, including boot camp, you might realize that you’re already totally on this bandwagon and loving it . . . at least what it does for you, right? If you’re not yet aboard and you’re curious about HIIT training, here’s the gist.  Work as hard as you can for about 20 to 30 seconds and then recover at a lower intensity before hitting it again.  Tabatas, sprints, high knees, air jacks .
