How it works This quickfire workout uses Tabata training, a method developed in Japan that trains your body’s aerobic and anaerobic systems at the same time. Doing the circuit under Tabata rules will burn fat and improve your VO2 max (the maximum volume of oxygen you can use during exercise). It will also induce excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), which gives your metabolism a boost after your finish exercising and encourages further fat loss. In Tabata training you perform each exercise by counting time rather than reps.

Pin It (NaturalNews) The human body was designed for movement, and even in a sick society most people recognize the importance of exercise. Sadly, many people never get further than that realization. Too many Americans don’t exercise at all, because they think it takes too much time or is too hard. After seeing too many people give up on their exercise plans after a few short months, many doctors are recommending an exercise routine from Japan called “Tabata.” This method of exercise can be as short as four minutes per session and research has proven it to be very effective for people of all fitness levels.HistoryThe Tabata technique is named after Dr. Izumi Tabata, a physiologist from Japan

There has been a lot of commotion lately about Tabata training. Everyone in the fitness industry is using it. It’s based on the research of Izumi Tabata and his colleagues at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Japan. The protocol they used, which was based on the training that Japanese speed skaters were doing on the ice, included 7 to 8 x 20-second sprints on a stationary bicycle (about 170% of VO2max) with just 10 seconds recovery 5 days per week for 6 weeks. That’s a tough 6 weeks

Tabata training was named after Izumi Tabata, Ph.D., a former researcher at Japan’s National Institute of Fitness and Sports. After I took my first Tabata inspired class I would have thought it was the Japanese word for water boarding or brussel sprouts. Though I wouldn’t exactly describe my first experience as pleasant, I did go back for more. Having not been familiar with Tabata prior to my first class, I wasn’t really sure what I was getting into, but my introduction came hard and fast.

The Tabata drills we’ve been adding into classes and private sessions lately elicit a lot of “OMGs” and “holy cows!” (or words to that effect). So while we’re adding them to our sessions, clients are still wondering things like if I’m saying ciabatta, or if Tabata is pronounced like Tabitha without the “th”. So I said I’d write up a little Tabata 101 low down to give everyone some background. Here we go
