One of our favorite wellness bloggers and Instagram follows, Lee from America, is going through a tough time this week. Her childhood dog, Nikki, passed away on Tuesday after a battle with cancer. “Saying goodbye to the pet that I grew up with feels like a chapter of childhood being shut, and the girl I always looked forward to coming home to won’t be there in the window when I go home to see my parents,” she says in an Instagram post today.

Lee, our hearts go out to you. Losing a pet — especially a childhood pet — is absolutely devastating. We’re sending you a virtual hug with all of our favorite healthy comfort food recipes based on the stuff we think you might like to eat right now.

Busy Philipps is the internet’s best friend. The actress — and now author — has had a lot going on this year (a movie! A book! A podcast!), but she manages to remain refreshingly honest and vulnerable on her Instagram. When she talks about her kids or the new diet she’s trying on Instagram stories, it feels like she’s talking to her real-life BFF, Michelle Williams, instead of her massive 1.1 million followers.

As a mom of two girls, Birdie (9) and Cricket (5), Busy navigates the same things many parents struggle with. She worries about Birdie at sleepaway camp and she attempts to make Pinterest-inspired cakes for Cricket’s birthday. She’s a cool mom, sure, but she’s also just a regular mom.

When Busy was in New York this week to talk about back-to-school season in partnership with Tropicana Kids, I sat down with her to talk about the challenges she faces with feeding her kids, her go-to snacks for Birdie and Cricket, and what an average family dinner looks like (sometimes the Instant Pot is involved).

If you use a reusable coffee filter with your drip machine: Go, you! If the most you do to clean said filter between uses is bang it around above a trash can: Go give it a proper cleaning right now, you!

A person considering going vegan has a lot of options these days. There are enough plant-based butter, milk, mayonnaise, ice cream, and yogurt options in the world now that a person could host a whole brunch without bothering a single cow, and none of the guests would even notice.

Plant-based substitutes for beef, chicken, and pork have gotten so realistic that they taste just like the real thing, and actually appear to bleed when you cut into them. Now a vegan seafood company is looking to become the next Impossible Burger with a new line of canned “tuna” made from plants.

The largest observational study of its kind, published in The Lancet Psychiatry journal1, found that people who exercise report having 1.5 fewer days of poor mental health compared to people who do not exercise. The study of 1.2 million people in the USA also found that team sports, cycling, aerobics and going to the gym are associated with the biggest reductions. The reduction is a significant 43.2% for people who reported exercising over those who didn’t.

In my universe, Sunday mornings are not complete without a piping-hot, crusty-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside carb explosion, courtesy of the nearest bagel shop. I like mine sliced down the middle and slathered with way too much cream cheese. This has never and probably will never change.

I’ve made a pretty big effort to bring my lunch to work this year. Not only am I saving a ton of money (those $12 New York salads add up!), but I also feel like I’m eating a little healthier. What I’ve learned is that meal planning and prepping is a lot of work. First you have to find the recipe that speaks to you, then you have to actually grocery shop and make the damn thing. And after all this — the most essential step — you have to remember to actually take your lunch to work.

When I was starting out I found that this last point was what was tripping me up. I’d make something tasty for lunch, and in the morning I’d forget about it until I was halfway to work. The worst! So annoying! What a waste! But this doesn’t have to be you.
