There are certain holidays that really make you want to get in the kitchen and start cooking. Thanksgiving, obviously. Christmas, Hanukkah, and Easter all have their own special food traditions. Even big days like Super Bowl Sunday and the Fourth of July can inspire feats of culinary greatness (or at least a great seven-layer dip).

But Halloween? Is that really a culinary celebration? Who among us has actually ever thought, “Halloween’s coming soon! What am I going to cook?”

In less than two weeks, you’re most likely going to need Halloween candy. And none of that off-brand, penny candy kind of stuff. You want to give out the good stuff. You know, because you want the kids to be excited — and also because you might “accidentally” buy too much and have leftovers!

That’s why we were pumped to see this MARS Variety Mix listed under Amazon’s daily deals this morning.

There are tons of things you can buy at Aldi for $5 or less. There is one thing, however, you should definitely buy at Aldi for $5 or less. It’s seriously so good, my husband and I often make the trip just to buy this one thing. (Of course we buy five or more at a time.)

Can you guess what it is?

As a busy single mother to three active kids, it can be a struggle to get healthy, home-cooked food on the table. But it can be done — especially when my slow cooker is involved.

I love throwing some ingredients in my slow cooker in the morning (especially when my kids help), and going about my day knowing dinner will be done when I get home. Even better is making a large-enough batch that I have a few meals taken care of. Leftover chicken tossed with mayonnaise or avocado to take the next day for lunch? Yes, please.

Do we have nights when we hit the drive-thru, or I throw some frozen pizza in the oven? Of course. But more often than not, my slow cooker comes to the rescue and helps me spend quality time with my family while enjoying quality food.

Here are 10 slow cooker recipes that I literally cannot live without.

As I’ve mentioned before in this space, recycling is confusing. The rules keep changing and “recyclable” packaging often has non-recyclable bits mixed in with it. But the good news is there are actually more things out there that you can recycle than you realized.

I spoke to Caroline Cox and Jessica Edington, project managers at How2Recycle, a membership-based labeling program initiated by the Sustainable Packaging Coalition that’s working to demystify the process by putting detailed recycling labels on packaged goods, to see if I was missing anything.

Actually, I went through my garbage and made a list of the things in there to see if I was forgetting to recycle anything. It was pretty gross. Luckily, it was a worthwhile endeavor. Turns out, there are a few things I should have been recycling. Are you making the same mistakes?

Although I’ll never give up my beloved pizza dough, this polenta crust pizza is a fun, wholesome way to serve pizza for dinner. The crust is full of fiber, thanks to it being whole-grain. (Bonus: It’s also gluten-free!) But beyond all the small ways this polenta pizza can help you meet your goals, whatever they may be, the most important thing to note is that it’s absolutely delicious.

When I think 30 years into the future, I’m hoping for things like bras without underwire that don’t suck and self-healing knives that never need sharpening! My groceries will obviously be delivered by drone and my laundry will automatically sort and fold itself.

Okay, so my vision is probably more dream than reality. (Or maybe not? Washington Post predicts drone-delivered kale may be part of the crazy Amazon-0wned Whole Foods new world.) Regardless, our favorite blue-and-yellow home design giant has a few ideas for your future kitchen that I’m positive are going to be a reality.
