Meet the spicy pickled carrots that are about to forever change your Taco Tuesday or even just your snack-dinner Wednesday. These crunchy, spicy, tangy pickles are made for serving with (or on top of) Mexican staples like tacos and enchiladas, or even just alongside a cold beer.

And because these carrot pickles are made just like our favorite quick refrigerator pickles, they are as easy to make as they are to eat.

Kindergarteners are incredibly opinionated about everything from their favorite My Little Pony to which socks they will be wearing today. While those strong opinions might make the school morning routine more taxing, they definitely come in handy when it comes to testing and reviewing lunch boxes for school lunches. I enlisted my favorite 5-year-old, who will be starting elementary school this fall, to test drive five of the most popular lunch boxes on the market. The results were both surprising and entertaining, with one clear winner. Turns out that moms have pretty strong opinions too.

Although the tragedy of natural disasters such as Hurricane Harvey bring sadness and destruction, they also tend to bring out what is best in mankind, even in the cesspool of corporate America! Such is the case with Walmart, a superstore that I am not particularly fond of. The company has stepped up its game to […]

When I traveled abroad as a child, my favorite part was picking out a souvenir. Thankfully, I seemed to steer clear of the mass-produced knickknacks, and ended up with quite a few timeless keepsakes from around the world. Maybe my 12-year-old self was cooler than I remember. (But probably not.)

The souvenirs I pick up these days don’t last as long. I love roaming the aisles of foreign supermarkets, selecting consumables to bring home like jams, cookies, and hot sauces. This is the same strategy I employ whenever I visit Britain, where I lived for 10 years.

I recently heard about probiotic cleaners and thought, “Come again?” I was obviously familiar with probiotics when it comes to gut health (cue that “activi-ahhhhh” song!) but never in terms of cleaning. Upon further investigation, I learned that these products are marketed as being allergy-free, non-toxic, eco-friendly, and non-GMO — basically all the things you’d want in a cleaner you’re using around kids, pets, or yourself.

Naturally, I was curious. So I got on the phone with Robert Meirovich, the CEO of Airbiotics, a company that makes probiotic all-purpose cleaners, to learn more.

A package of gnocchi from the store has always been one of our favorite easy dinners, but now it just got a whole lot easier. That’s because we discovered you don’t even actually have to boil the gnocchi in order to make it for dinner. Toss them directly from the package onto a sheet pan with a slew of veggies, roast them for 20 minutes, scoop into bowls, and dig in. Seriously — that’s it. It’s a game-changing way to make a go-to weeknight meal even more of a win.

Tropical Storm Harvey, a Category 4 hurricane, hit Texas and parts of Louisiana this past week. In light of the deadly floods, people have been partaking in random acts of kindness. Like the Pizza Hut employee who delivered hot slices to those stranded and running out of food, or the Mexican bakers who were trapped and made hundreds of pan dulce for flood victims.

With all the regulations surrounding what’s allowed in school classrooms these days, it can be hard to think up ways to celebrate your child’s weekday birthday. At many schools, treats — like cupcakes and ice cream — have been banned due to allergies and a number of other reasons. Without food as a celebratory go-to, parents are left trying to figure out how to make their child feel special within the constraints of the classroom. We’ve got you — and your birthday boy. For a food-free celebration, try one of these tactics.
