in this second edition of “ask the trainers”, we’re looking to find answers to whether or not high intensity interval training (commonly referred to as HIIT) will help improve running times. this question comes from dee: “will HIIT workouts help me improve my running times?”i’ll give a few bullet points to summarize the answer (because it helps me learn and retain knowledge), but the full answer can be found at the applied fitness solutions blog. check it out for the full answer to this great question!recent research suggests that interval training does improve aerobic fitness to a greater extent than traditional steady state cardio (it also results in greater calorie burning and body fat reduction, which is a good reason why it is so popular in the fitness world!) to understand how HIIT workouts impact running, you need to first understand what HIIT is. HIIT is defined by a period of higher intensity “work” followed by a lower intensity “recovery” period

Apr 12th, 2013 Author: Andy Category: training H.I.I.T what is it? High Intensity Interval Training (H.I.I.T) comes in a wide variety of forms with every trainer implementing their own ideas on the technique, but the key idea behind this training session remains the same. It involves short sharp high intensity workout periods followed by lower intensity breaks long enough that your body recovers and can perform at high intensities again. Although it is only now becoming a mainstream way of training the H.I.I.T principles have been around for years and implemented by top athletes all over the world. So why now is only just becoming popular? Trainers for years have followed the same idea of long sessions working at a low intensity keeping the heart rate within the ‘Fat Burning Zone’ and although with the correct diet and discipline this can be a very effective method, the long sessions have become unpopular because clients just don’t have enough time.

I’m always looking for new workout routines to change up my workouts so that my body doesn’t get “used” to anything and plateau. I love BodyRock.tv videos because the trainers in the videos work really hard. Normally I’m not able to do most of their routines…yet..but they have a newer series called HiitLite which is lower intensity training than they’re normally working out to but it still brings the burn. If you’re looking for a quick workout to add a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ to your routine, check out this video (below). BodyRock has a new site, new videos on Daily Hiit which is an awesome free resource, definitely worth checking out
