Whether you’re all about snacks or prefer your child eat only three square meals a day, one thing is certain: There will be a day when you will be out and about, unavoidably delayed, with a hangry child on your hands. For those times, having a healthy snack handy is key, because otherwise you might break down and buy them something neon-colored at the nearest gas station.

Keeping those snacks handy and contained is part of the art of being a parent — er, prepared. Here are five of the best on-the-go-containers for kid snacks.

Air travel is a marvel of modern technology that has expanded our capacity for knowledge and cross-cultural experiences in incalculable ways. It also turns people into absolute jerks. Is it because airplanes don’t seem like fully private or fully public spaces? Or is it because rules don’t matter at 35,000 feet?

I don’t know what it is about airplanes that makes otherwise reasonable individuals lose all sense of the space and people around them, but from opening pungent food to getting hammered on bloody Marys at 8 a.m., people do a lot of irritating things on airplanes.

If we started making a list of terrible things people have done on planes, we’d be here all day. Fortunately, the travel experts at Expedia decided to do it for us, and they came up with a definitive list of the most annoying airplane behaviors for the rest of us to gawk at.

For me, part of the appeal of Martin’s Potato Rolls is right there on its quaint plastic packaging. The hearts and tulips surrounding its logo look like something your grandmother might’ve embroidered and framed and, as you place them tenderly in your shopping cart, you’ll spot the words “Delicious to Serve at the Nicest Dinners,” stamped on the side in tidy red letters.

If it didn’t have a Facebook logo on the flip-side, it would look like something out of a 1950s fever dream and, in a way, that’s exactly what Martin’s rolls are. They’re also the best freaking hot dog and hamburger buns you can buy.

Classic creamed spinach is good in the same way that mashed potatoes or mac and cheese is — it’s usually all cream and flour, with the spinach adding only color. This is a different dish, and that’s why I call it creamy (not creamed) spinach.

The cream’s function here is to mingle with the garlic and nutmeg, adding just enough richness to elevate things above straight-up sautéed spinach. And the dill stands as a green, too, combining with the spinach to make something like spanakopita in a bowl.

The one word you should avoid when buying cheap rosé is not Franzia or boxed — it’s domestic! For all you U.S.-based readers, rosé shopping is one time when you don’t want to buy local. This is not to say there aren’t good American rosés, it’s just that most of the good ones start at just under $20 and go up from there.

Go too cheap with domestic rosé and you risk ending up with something heavy, cloying, and weirdly sweet and bitter.

Keep reading to learn what you should buy instead.

My daughter Sadie and I went to Italy during the time I was writing Eating with the Ground Up, and although the trip was all pleasure and no work I couldn’t help but scribble notes down in my little book when a vegetable had been prepared well.

Sadie ended up doing the same — often at the end of the day we’d compare notes, trying to figure out exactly what had made that particular cream sauce or pizza so mind-blowing. We both agreed that this dish of asparagus bacon pasta needed to be recorded and reproduced.

Mace 360 + extension:
3 x 10 @ scaled to ability in each set

Rest as needed between sets. When scheme is listed as “3 x 10″, it always refers to “Sets” x “Reps”.

Today, each rep will feature an extension from the “holster” position (elbows bent, inside of arms against your body) to arms straight, hold for 3/1000, and return to holster to begin the next rep.
